Heidi L. Gomozias
Heidi Gomozias is a workers’ compensation specialist whose expertise focuses on insuring
claims are:
- stringently defended
- properly reserved
- closed timely
With over 20 years’ experience and being third generation insurance, she understands the pitfalts and perils of successfully navigating the workers’ compensation system and strives to empower employers in mitigating the costs of insurance.
Heidi began her career in insurance with one of the largest writers of workers’ compensation coverage, Republic Indemnity. There she was responsible for the management of a caseload which consistently averaged 250 active cases in a unit designated to large profile accounts (Pixar, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, Devcon Construction, etc), She was assigned the catastrophic losses including death claims, large subrogation cases, multiple co-defendant and serious injuries involving quadriplegia, memory loss, and psyche.
in 1995, she moved from adjusting claims to supervising a claims unit consisting of 7 claims examiners and 3 clerical support positions. In that position she was responsible for setting reserves, authorizing settlements, assigning investigations and the oversight of the unit’s collective caseloads.
In 1999, Heidi transitioned from active claims management into the role of Northern California Division Claims Specialist where she was the company liaison to brokers and producers. In that position she prepared and conducted claim reviews for insureds and their producers, assisted with medical clinic selection, loss control coordination and risk analysis.
It was a natural transition when in 2002 she was solicited by a Silicon Valley commercial insurance brokerage to develop a workers compensation claims department for the direct oversight of their client’s claims. In this director position, Heidi conducted quarterly claim reviews, negotiated with adjusters, reviewed safety and reporting procedures, implanted return-to-work programs, assisted with industrial clinic selection, and proiected and reviewed experience modifications for their largest accounts. She was requested to speak to the Northern California Independent Grocers Association and the Western Suppliers Association on claims techniques and management.
In 2003 she, along with 2 partners, opened their own independent insurance agency specializing in grocery accounts. In this position she was responsible for the daily running of the agency, hiring of staff, financials, payroll, sales and marketing along with her specialty of workers’ compensation. During that time, Heidi managed a large deductible program for PW Supermarkets which resulted in their average claim costs dropping from $22K per claim to $3K per claim within a 1 year period and an overall insurance program savings of 35 million in premium over a 2 year period.
In 2005, Heidi launched CompWise Consulting and partnered with Archway Insurance Services to bring services, usually reserved for the largest accounts by nationals, to all insureds and assists even the “mom and pop shops” in taking advantage of all avenues of claim mitigation under the law. She has developed and copyrighted workers compensation educational programs that can be specifically designed for the insured’s industry and taught in-house, one-touch reporting and Return-to-Work programs. She believes an employer should never be caught by surprise by experience modifications and works with the producer to put claims in their best position allowing for greater markets and pricing.
