We have had many conversations with insureds who wish to know if their commercial insurance policy that includes business interruption insurance will cover their business loss during the COVID lockdown.
This April 14, 2020, “Notice” from the California Insurance Commissioner requires that all questions about coverage must be filed as a claim with the applicable carrier.
Please contact us in order that we can advise you on the process for filing a claim. Absent that, your policy will have instructions on how to file a claim, including an 800 number for calling it in. You will need your policy number if you call the carrier directly. Please advise us if you have filed you claim directly, so that we can note it in our files, for follow up.
Business Interruption insurance is an optional coverage that may be purchased as part of a comprehensive multi-peril commercial policy, business owners’ policy, or on a stand-alone basis. Many small and large California businesses purchase Business Interruption insurance to protect against the loss of income and other losses caused by an interruption to the normal operations of the business.
